Exploring Reddit Gigs, AI's Explosive Growth, and the Power of Experimentation

Greetings, wonderful people of the internet. It’s yet another Friday! How was your week? Mine flew by in just three days.
Reddit is an interesting place. I recently discovered niche subreddits where people can both find work and hire talent. It’s kind of like Fiverr, but on Reddit. What surprised me was how quickly people responded. I did an experiment and applied for an OnlyFans Accounts Manager gig. Interestingly, I received a reply within a day. Although I wasn’t entirely looking to be an NSFW moderator, I saw this as an opportunity to explore both getting hired and hiring. The subreddits I explored were r/slavelabour and r/DoneDirtCheap. I’ll be experimenting more with this.
Another fascinating thing I came across is the rapid growth of AI. The market for AI surpassed 184 billion US dollars in 2024, a considerable jump of 50 billion compared to 2023. We’re still in the early days. One trend I’ve noticed is the rise of faceless YouTube videos. These videos can generate up to 1 million views, and creators have found a way to turn this into a money-making machine. The great thing is that it’s free and only requires curiosity. I created a faceless YouTube channel, The Stoic Weave, to post Stoic content weekly. This would have been difficult to achieve just a year ago. The best approach is to be like a mad scientist and experiment with the technology.
As always, I share some of the interesting nuggets on Fridays. Here we go:
This podcast discusses how AI will reshape the future of work and how to prepare so as not to become obsolete.
"Become undefinable. Run a marathon one day, write an essay the next. Direct a short film, build an app, deadlift 500 lbs, strategize a marketing campaign, or do whatever your curiosity draws you to. If you can be defined as '____,' you face either competition or replacement." — Dan Koe
The Single Most Important Trait That Matters in Your Friends, Coworkers, Kids, Partners & Life: Tim Denning reiterates what makes a person a high-agency individual. This concept was popularized by George Mack, who said, “A high-agency person looks to bend reality to their will.”
He Sold His Company for $15M, Then Got a Job at McDonald’s: This is a recent episode on the My First Million Pod featuring the founder of meetup.com, who got a job at McDonald’s and also worked at an Amazon fulfilment centre on minimum wage. The story is both hilarious and thought-provoking.
That’s all for this week. Have a frabjous weekend!
